history and roadmap

Xoscript has been around in one form or another for 32 years under various names. The first version even ran on a C64!

from basic-nl to xoscript

xoscript originally began as BASIC-NL in 1993, a BASIC-like programming language written for the commodore 64. Due to floppy degradation, the original code has been lost. However the system operated by simply modding the existing basic interpreter by using a hack in the KCS power cardridge. In 2009 BASIC-NL was rebooted under the name Citrine-lang and a more developer centered spin-off was created in 2025, i.e. xoscript. You can consult the full changelog on github.
